CLOSE TO HEAVEN
The Pacific Islands...only hours away by jet, yet a million miles away. We have our favourites-everyone does. Here are a few pictures from cruising with The Moorings in Vavau, diving the soft corals of Taveuni & just lazing about in the wonderment that is the Pacific.
Got a a spare 5 minutes?
See how gorgeous Sailing in Vav'au is.
Yes , the water is really that colour, and that clear
Our team always love an excuse to go to the Islands
So if you have a resort, or boats, or even just a nice little property by the sea that needs promoting, Call us.
It's that Island to the North of the main island in Western Samoa, but you knew that...
A tropical circular volcanic island with well tended villages, a variety of accommodation-from Island style fales to lodges, with snorkel beaches right beside the road.
Perfect for biking around, driving around, or catching Sam's Island Wheels Tours and getting the full nine yards Guided Tour.
Talk about noisy!
A trip to Sava'ii isn't complete without a trip to the blow holes on the western side. Wait until there's a big westerly lift in the ocean (they'd be less than spectacular if it was an easterly) and get down there.
Take cash-the local landowners want paying-and if you have a drone-well-prepare to negotiate the national debt.
Worth a visit. Prepare to get misted .
If you take Sam he'll throw coconut husks in the blow holes and you'll be in awe as to how high they go....
A lovely bit of thinking...
Some Canadians offered to build a treetops walk in some ancient banyan trees, so the locals could make money from tourism, as opposed to knocking the trees down and selling them for timber
Now, if only a few other places did that, wouldn't it just be peachy??
Snorkel off the beach
No boats, no clunky gear , just grab your mask and fins and go.
Oh...water temp, July15th?
Just back a bit honey!
More blow hole madness.
These folks were drenched. I think the phone was waterproof.
You'd hope so....
Two Samoans think they're Scully and Mulder
Remember in the X Files when they walk into dark places and the ultra bright flashlights (where did they keep those? In Scully's handbag??) start waving around.
Well, it was a little like this. This lava tube goes on for 5 hours, if you are so inclined. And it's not a walk through....so that means you have to come back.
Not for this tourist.
And did I mention the wildlife?
See the next pic....
If you dislike big spiders, bats in your hair, and dark dark places, well these caves aren't for you.
Interesting that the Swifts (the birds, not Taylor's folks) live in there...about 100 metres in. They nest in lava crevices. Must be safe for them.
Bats fly up and down all the time, echo locating chirrups going on all around.
Don't bother talking a jumper. Wear sensible shoes (see: Bat Guano)
So-Savaii. What's it about? It's an hour long ferry ride to get to the Island from Upolu
Hint-get the NEW ferry, not the old one, unless you like getting sunburnt and seasick at the same time.
Then it's a couple of hours to get to the top of the Island....depending on stops of course. Which makes it a 4 hour round trip, non stop -give or take 1/2 hour. There's a bike rental operation at the Airport Lodge where you can get bikes from, and also Sea kayaks.
